DAS Abstract
Submission Guidelines 2023

DAS 2023 Abstract Submission is now closed
Abstract submissions are welcome for consideration for the Difficult Airway Society 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held in person from the 29th November – 1st December 2023 at Birmingham. Abstracts are a vital component of every DAS meeting and, the programme includes oral and poster abstract presentation sessions.
Abstracts are encouraged from all grades and staff groups with an interest in airway management, however DAS are particularly keen to encourage trainee participation particularly as the presenting author.
The information below should be read before submitting your abstract. Abstracts that do not follow these instructions are unlikely to be accepted. Please note that as the review window this year is very short the opportunity to raise queries with authors is very limited. Abstracts should be submitted through the online submission portal here before the closing date 23:59 7th September 2023. It is very unlikely that late submissions (regardless of cause) will be accepted.
Abstract authors should bear in mind that the conference can take no responsibility for difficulties with submission immediately prior to the closure of the portal. Authors are encouraged to submit their completed abstracts early and not wait for the last day.
Top scoring abstracts will get a chance to get published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia.

Presentation Type
An abstract can be submitted for presentation at the meeting as one of the following categories:
· Oral or Poster Presentation
· Poster Presentation
At the review stage, the judging panel may change the presentation type submitted by the author to ensure the continuity of the programme i.e. oral presentation may be changed to poster presentation. The presenting Author will be informed of any change to their submitted presentation type at the acceptance notification stage. The decision of the judging panel regarding inclusion in the conference or mode of presentation will be final and unfortunately given the number of submissions individual feedback cannot be provided.
The best abstracts will be invited to present their work in the oral session scheduled in the main conference programme. Poster presentation sessions will take place throughout the conference. All submissions will be reviewed on merit and allocated to a poster or oral session accordingly. Authors may choose to only have their work reviewed for a poster session.
Abstract presenters are reminded that programme times may be subject to change and they should be prepared to be available throughout the conference. Given the number of submissions, it is unlikely that specific day/time requests can be considered.
Previously Presented or Submitted Abstracts
Abstracts should not have been previously presented (orally or in poster format) at another international conference. Similarly, previously published work should not be submitted.
Abstracts that have only previously been presented locally will be considered. If the authors are in any doubt regarding the eligibility of their abstract, they should contact DAS2023@conferencepartners.com prior to the closing submission date for clarification along with details of where their work was previously presented. Authors are encouraged to seek early advice when in any doubt, as the judging window is short and the scope to resolve ambiguity after submission is limited.
Submission Process
The abstract submission process for DAS 2023 will be through an online submission portal
Presenting Authors are requested to create an account and submit an abstract for review according to the guidelines set out below. The same account will be used when you register for the meeting. Please keep the email and password used to create the account for future use. Please do not create a new account. Should you require any assistance or have a query about online submission, contact DAS2023@conferencepartners.com.
IMPORTANT:
- It is ESSENTIAL that you read the instructions before you submit.
- The Presenting Author must submit the abstract and is required to be the corresponding author for that abstract
- Abstracts must be submitted in English
The language of the conference is English and all abstracts should be submitted in English. Abstract submissions are welcome from non-english speaking authors. Some assistance with the linguistic requirements may be available if an early draft of the abstract (in English) is submitted to DAS2023@conferencepartners.com before 1st August 2023. This assistance will not affect the judging process which is carried out after the submission deadline.
Submission Guidelines
Please adhere to the following formatting guidelines when preparing abstracts for submission for DAS 2023. Abstracts which are not correctly formatted will not be reviewed.
How to submit an abstract
The Presenting Author will be the contact person for the abstract and must submit the abstract. Once you enter the online submission portal, start by creating an account. Please keep a record of the account details you use to set up the account as you will require them to log into both the DAS 2023 abstract submission system and registration portals. Upon successful submission of the abstract a confirmation email will be sent to the Presenting Author.
If you have not received a confirmation email, please check that your abstract is not left in draft and is fully submitted by logging back into the portal and checking on the View/Edit Abstracts page.
IMPORTANT: Please note that you can save your submission as a draft and return to edit the submission, but once it has been submitted the abstract cannot be edited after the close of submission deadline. If you require any assistance regarding the submission of your abstract, contact DAS2023@conferencepartners.com

Ethics

All submissions will be required to confirm that they meet the ethical standards presented below. Any authors with questions should contact DAS2023@conferencepartners.com at the earliest opportunity
All submissions are expected to comply with the ethical standards of the BJA. (This stipulation applies to ALL SUBMITTED ABSTRACTS). These can be found here (https://www.elsevier.com/journals/british-journal-of-anaesthesia/0007-0912/guide-for-authors). Ethical committee approval (Institutional Review Board), Caldicott Approval (for patient identifiable data) or equivalent should be explicitly stated in the methods. Where it has been agreed that formal ethical review is not required, this (and the designation of the person providing that advice) should also be recorded in the methods. Written patient consent for case reports should be obtained and recorded clearly in the abstract and retained for possible viewing by the abstract judges.
Mannikin based studies are not exempt from ethical considerations and clear evidence that this has been considered should be available
Surveys of clinicians conducted in the UK do not require ethical approval. This does not necessarily apply to audits and certainly does not apply to surveys of patients
